freedom is a removals van
a reunion with a writing bureau
that’s been in the wrong hands
far away for far too long
freedom is the clear-seeing
of a boundary set by you and her
about a problem that’s
not really about me
freedom is your permission
to give up caring about you
(though i’d have been happy to)
freedom is honouring
an 18-year friendship
but it’s also a sweet fuck you
oh!
freedom is what i am
going to be with all this freedom
This renewed sense of freedom is not without its complexities, but it is very real and deeply felt.
Over the past months, the wrapping of boxes and furniture, the rehoming of my cats, and the journey of my belongings from Cape Town to Hoedspruit have become powerful physical symbols of one very long chapter of my life coming to an end.
What’s left now is an interesting mixture of grief, healing, the quiet finality of certain things, spaciousness… and a growing intention to really inhabit my life here.
