let your longing
be just yours
for a day
keep the ache close
lay it low
sit slow
wait—
for the unbearable
to settle
Longing can be intoxicating—sweet and sharp in the same breath. A reminder that we are alive!
Longing for someone, because they’re away, gone forever, or were never really yours.
For a time passed, or a creative dream that feels out of reach.
For something that might never come, or something that will—just not yet.
To belong in a new place, or feel part of something.
Or to be loved back…
The wanting can be agonising too, and it’s tempting to rush in, fill the gap, or soothe it away. Knowing this, I’ve been asking:
What if you tended kindly to your longing?
What if you let it be just yours for a day, a week, a season?
To see what settles.
To let the pieces of the bigger picture fall into place.
