come, let’s go!

come, let’s go!
beckoned a beach
bleached like bone
a beach as wide as a whale
as long as a longing

so like the sanderling
feet tip-tap-tapping
beneath lovely, round, soft body
i travelled the spine
of sand packed overnight
and washed smooth for a new day

greet-greeting gulls
in secret meetings
and wrapped in the arms
of a warm fog
that hid all hints of a sun’s rising
i pad-padded a path
that on turning
returned me home
